Question: In general, how do you determine if the cost/benefit of a feature will be too high? In comparison to ARA, converting Spectral Peaks to adjustable blobs/notes seems to be very low cost and would probably satisfy 99% of the ARA crowd (including me). Am I right?
Asked by Mommy (99.173.156.x) on February 7 2017, 11:02pm
Reply on February 8 2017, 4:26am:
I don't think you have a good understanding of the cost there...

Question: How do you and Schwa work together to implement a feature like Automation Items? Do you each create sketches then talk over Skype before any code is written? Also, will the process be the same when implementing Melodyne's ARA or will one of you do all the work?
Asked by Mommy (99.173.156.x) on February 7 2017, 8:32pm
Reply on February 7 2017, 9:04pm:
We mostly do new features like that independently, consulting one another on the tricky bits, or for certain sections (e.g. the first draft of automation items was all schwa, but I did a bit of an overhaul on the undo system for it). As for ARA, well, we'll see (but generally speaking the cost/benefit of adding ARA is way too high).

Question: My regular coffee is Lavazza Qualità Rossa (pretty kick-ass Italian expresso) - If I wanted to expand my palette, do you have any coffee recommendations ?
Asked by neverbeeninariot (138.32.176.x) on February 7 2017, 12:10pm
Reply on February 7 2017, 2:30pm (edited at February 7 2017, 2:31pm):
Hard to say, depends what you have around you... I've been making french press coffee, using beans from Intelligentsia or Blue Bottle (though there are a number of roasters around whose beans I like), ground using a hand burr grinder... One ends up experimenting with the size of the grind, ratio of coffee to water, time spent steeping... so it's hard to give a blanket recommendation. But the result is quite nice.

Question: How many LOC is reaper?
Asked by jsfxll (82.49.232.x) on February 6 2017, 9:48pm
Reply on February 6 2017, 11:09pm:
REAPER.exe is about 400k lines, not including WDL or third party libraries. And then there are tons of plug-ins (both REAPER-native plug-ins and VST-like plug-ins), and JSFX, and such.

Thankfully no, I've had pain at times but nothing chronic. A good chiropractor can do amazing things, I think, but what defines "good" is hard to say... :/

Question: ''v2.25 -JSFX: update many stock plug-ins to define their I/O''. Just wondering, as I use many JSFX from the Stash that dont have this update. Just a bit confused, whether it affects these older FX's performance. Thanks.
Asked by Bean (1.178.252.x) on January 26 2017, 4:57am
Reply on January 26 2017, 5:12pm:
Ah, it's fine, just if you have a plug-in which only accesses 2 channels on a 64 channel track, REAPER will do a bit more work than necessary, but it isn't that much work. To be clear: there is no decrease in performance in that update, just a (potential) increase in performance for plug-ins that define their pin counts.
