Question: Does AVS essentially draw what we see in memory with the code you wrote, then use a win32 call to put it on the screen?

    AVS draws everything in a 32bpp framebuffer, then blits it using BitBlt() or DirectDraw or an overlay, depending on the mode, I believe.
