Question: Why someone use EEL instead of Lua? A chance to defend your baby.
Asked by gio (94.66.81.x) on May 16 2012, 5:06pm
Reply on May 16 2012, 7:50pm:
Performance for signal processing... I don't think Lua would come close (which isn't to say Lua isn't awesome, just different design goals).

Soundjam was for macs, Winamp was not. Winamp was owned by AOL by that point, too, I think. Never met the man...

Question: Assuming most of your income doesn't come from Reaper, why wouldn't you make it opensource/free?
Asked by Аркадий (188.120.236.x) on May 13 2012, 1:36am
Reply on May 14 2012, 1:44pm:
Having REAPER be developed by a business has many advantages -- we can have employees, we can spend money to license other technologies, provide infrastructure, etc. In many ways, you get what you pay for.

Question: Why we have a limitation in NSEEL_RAM_BLOCKS + NSEEL_RAM_ITEMSPERBLOCK? if changed, will it break things or I'll have bad perf..
Asked by gio (94.66.81.x) on May 11 2012, 9:30pm
Reply on May 12 2012, 2:03am:
If you change it you will need to make some mods to asm-nseel-x86-gcc.c and/or asm-nseel-ppc-gcc.c. If modifying the x86 version, you would also need to run "php a2i.php" and "php a2x64.php", the latter multiple times with certain options too. The limit is so that the RAM-space is constrained by EEL, so a plug-in can't allocate too much RAM.

Question: Hey, you've probably been asked this before, but why don't you supply hashes for Reaper (or Setup-Signatures)?
Asked by Maximilian (194.166.64.x) on May 9 2012, 7:13pm
Reply on May 11 2012, 2:09am:
You mean signing our installers? I guess we could, but then we get to cough up for a certificate... Most people don't seem to mind running unsigned installers, anyway.

Question: Programming probably came easy, but was running a business natural or did you have to work at it?
Asked by David (69.15.110.x) on May 9 2012, 10:40am
Reply on May 9 2012, 4:04pm:
If you decide to run it in the right way, it can be easy. Dealing with making compromises in product in the name of money, that's not easy.

A bit, it seemed they mostly wanted people who knew REAPER and wanted to write the column, rather than just the tips themselves...
