Question: Briefly compare pros/cons of waveout, directaudio, ASIO, kernel streaming, etc.?
Asked by Will (68.96.206.x) on November 7 2009, 12:59pm
Reply on November 8 2009, 9:42am:
The practical pros and cons are that (on non-cheapo hardware) ASIO typically has the most well developed drivers, most readily configurable access to those, is the easiest to implement from a programmers perspective. WDM KS and WASAPI can provide similar performance to ASIO, though aren't as easy to work with.

DirectSound and WaveOut(MME) are pretty old, and relatively straightforward to support, though their architectures make it difficult to use them with really low latencies. This isn't really specific to their APIs, but more just a factor of how they are implemented everywhere.

SetWindowTheme() can be used to remove theme, so perhaps you can use it to add a theme rather than using a manifest... Not sure ;)

Question: when avs 2
Asked by reyhan (118.96.83.x) on November 4 2009, 4:40pm
Reply on November 5 2009, 6:25pm:
Haha.. I suppose we could do something using LICE and EEL2.. but with people having invested so much on exploiting AVS for what it was, making a "next-gen" AVS would be a long uphill slope...

Question: How to draw unicode text using lice?
Asked by ruchira (202.129.233.x) on November 2 2009, 8:19pm
Reply on November 3 2009, 8:45am (edited at November 3 2009, 8:46am):
LICE_CachedFont::DrawText() takes UTF-8 input. So you can convert to UTF-8, then call it. :)

Or, if you have a LICE_SysBitmap you can just call DrawTextW(), too.. (using LICE_IBitmap::getDC())

Question: Is the VU meter animation done with basic GDI calls?
Asked by Will (24.234.128.x) on October 30 2009, 10:50am
Reply on October 30 2009, 7:54pm:
In REAPER (on Windows), currently, it is done using LICE, then BitBlt() using GDI. In 1.x and early 2.x it was composed using BitBlt() from prerendered bitmaps.
