Question:
Are you working on version 5 of any software you develope? (Pay attention I didnt named the one that can be named, neither I intended to suggest any software in particular that can be used as a DAW for exemple. I just remembered this question because we are ending 2014, and 4-1=3+2=5, of course)

I suppose in many ways NINJAM is my favorite, especially since it was knocked out so quick and is still quite usable many years later.

Question:
Do you find it odd that REAPER users very boldly ignore the note directly above about NOT ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT REAPER?
Asked by Will (24.234.85.x) on December 4 2014, 6:28pm
Reply on December 4 2014, 6:38pm:
Yeah, many people ignore what the internet has to say. I'm sure I'm guilty too, reading articles and only remembering the bits that speak to me, skimming the rest.

Asked by Bald Tarantula (184.162.143.x) on December 4 2014, 4:15pm
Reply on December 4 2014, 4:42pm (edited at December 4 2014, 4:44pm):
Full question:
I keep reading that the phil behind R's dev is to add features the devs want to use themselves. I assume this is to keep the job motivating, but I can't help to feel a bit uncomfortable everytime I read that. In practice, R's dev and support is one of the best I've experienced, but again, that statement rubs me the wrong way. Is it unreasonable to expect a bit more influence as a paying customer? Does this mean it is possible that the most requested features never get implemented because the devs don't find them useful?
In an ideal world paying customers (and indeed evaluating users) would get everything they ever desire, but life is full of compromises, and it's also very difficult to implement features well without using them. Our goal is not necessarily to implement everything that everybody wants (an impossibility), but to do some things and do them well.
This brings an important point: I think it's essential when purchasing software to understand that you are purchasing a license for the software as it is today, not necessarily some fantasy of what you want it to be, nor the ability to influence its future.

Question:
Will Reaper 5.0 look so stylish like Fl Studio? or Studio one? When will the alpha stage of development begin, i remember for reaper 4.0 it took over 7 months for final release, will it take such a long time for development this time? will there be a reaper 4.99?
Asked by Madan (123.201.214.x) on December 3 2014, 4:33am
Reply on December 4 2014, 3:18am:
We will see! I hope the cycle isn't so long, a couple of months should be plenty.

Question:
i requested for few features in feature request thread in reaper forum. will you read all those feature request in that thread and decide when u add a feature for reaper 5.0? how you will conclude that a feature is essential and how you take decision to add them?
Asked by Madan (123.201.214.x) on December 2 2014, 8:11pm
Reply on December 2 2014, 10:30pm:
We read as much as we can regarding feature requests, but I can't honestly say that we read every forum post. As far as choosing features go, we definitely take requests in to consideration, but a lot of it comes down to what we (as both REAPER developers and users) want to use. There are plenty of things that we end up adding that we don't use much as users, but those instances are not the majority.

"Bigwig Studio" A Daw which does better than reaper. Do you agree? why reaper doesn't have enough feature when compared to some top professional daw?

Define "does better"? I think in a great number of ways (but clearly not every way imaginable) REAPER is the best daw in the universe.

Haven't really looked at it, it's not really my thing. Things like that always put us in a tough place, because there are often good ideas, but you don't want to always go effectively crushing people who develop things for your platform (like Apple and MS do, and so on)...
