Question: Why did you choose Lua over JavaScript for Reaper's scripting language? Many REAPER users are already familiar with the JavaScript syntax so we would only have to worry about learning the API.
Asked by Mommy (76.110.183.x) on December 31 2017, 6:29pm
Reply on January 1 2018, 12:37am:
JavaScript engines are a lot more difficult to integrate than Lua.

I think it's cool, and adding it to the resources section would probably make sense (though right now we're lazy).

Question: 1) What do you like more? i) City or Countryside? ii) Summer or Winter? iii) Piano or Guitar? iv) Computer or Laptop? 2) Are you introvert, ambivert or extrovert?
Asked by Abhijeet Singh (59.89.123.x) on December 20 2017, 10:00am
Reply on December 20 2017, 3:22pm:
City most of the time, wilderness some of the time. Summer for sure. Guitar as of late. I like the quiet and low power consumption of laptops, but like fullsize keyboards, mice, screens. Right now I'm using a RMBP connected to a MS natural keyboard and mouse, and a thunderbolt display, and it's quite nice. I'm an introvert sometimes and an extrovert others, but in both cases I'd say they're pretty mild.

Question: JSFX is "compiled on the fly", but when I write even just a few second-order filters it takes up way more CPU than a native plugin like ReaEQ. How much of that is the language, and how much is me needing to write more efficient code?
Asked by signalsmith (72.21.198.x) on December 19 2017, 1:05am
Reply on December 19 2017, 2:57am:
I'd have to see the code, but if you code them carefully it should take about 2x the CPU as reaeq, plus a bit of extra calling overhead, I'd imagine.

Question: Is it a coincidence that ARA2 was recently developed or did you/Schwa prompt Celemony to do so? What's your opinion on ARA1 vs ARA2?

Reply on December 15 2017, 2:17pm (edited at December 15 2017, 2:19pm):
As far as I know ARA2 has been in development a long time. I'm out of the loop on ARA so I am not qualified to answer, but I imagine ARA2 would be extending ARA1...

Question: I know this is crazy... but is it possible that in Reaper 6 we will see video recording capability? (recording video using your laptop build-in camera or the one that is connected to your computer) It would've been really handy for bloggers and tutorial type of guys. Though I understand that it might be to complex to implement.

Reply on December 15 2017, 11:42am:
Nope, though I'm eying some live capture capability so we can do live video processors.. at least as a hack.

Question: Q1) Will you make a new theme for REAPER 6 or continue the v5 theme? Q2) What if you get tired & stop developing REAPER? Will you open-source it? Will REAPER continue to develop after becoming open-source?
Asked by Abhijeet Singh (61.2.248.x) on December 14 2017, 4:55am
Reply on December 14 2017, 3:03pm:
I can't say theme plans have been made, but every other major version of REAPER so far has had a new theme. Re: getting tired of REAPER, I wouldn't worry about that any time soon, and maybe by the time you would worry about it we'll have AI writing code for us? :)
