Question: i wonder, if CoreAudio is such a beast, why nobody hasn't replicated/ported it yet in linux instead of inventing crappy PulseAudio, ALSA...What do you think?

    jack is roughly the equivalent of CoreAudio (and even more flexible). jack's API is probably better to program for, but CoreAudio does other things better (like just working without much setup, allowing different applications to use different samplerates/block sizes, etc).
