    Generally, by redistributing the noise energy into frequencies that humans are less sensitive to. Specifically, by generating a filter that is essentially the inverse of an equal loudness contour, so frequencies that we perceive as louder are cut and frequencies that we perceive as quieter are boosted. Then isolating the quantization noise and applying the filter to it.
