Question: what do you do when you get stuck at a problem whether in coding or in life?

Your choices are: persist, shelve and come back to it later, or find a workaround.

For programming tasks I will also add to the list: sleeping with the problem as it could be effective as well, then try to tackle the problem first thing in the morning before anyone has access to your ears. Find some time for self-introspection late at night or early in the morning (what suits you best), trust your intuition more, and your logic less.

Good addition! I do that when shelving but good to specify it on its own too :)

…often when waking up from sleep or whatnot i will have moments of “oh” figuring things out, or realizing something I had written was incorrect…

Ah, the "committee of sleep". That was the key to naming Nike. I'd add to your list (for me anyway), open the door, go out for a run or walk.
