Question:
Hey justin , do you have a theory on why vst plugins are way ahead of competition GUI wise, we have plugins that are fully interactive beautiful and very snappy and everything can modulate and change everything else , yet we are stuck everywhere else with boring sliders and buttons

what's the competition, the rest of REAPER? or other software? or non-VST plug-ins? anyway, meh

Not reaper specifically, GUIs in general , web applications , websites , native applications , no one is pushing the boundaries of UI

fancier UI isn't necessarily better, I think VST developers probably look for things that will differentiate their plug-ins since the actual DSP is relatively straightforward for them?

And it's also an accessibility issue. The "fancier" the guis are, the more unusable they become for blind, visually impaired or even neurodivergent people. Not everyone is abled. Traditional ui-elements might be boring, but do a good job, especially nowadays for people needing accessibility.

Mespotine is spot on, well said. People just ignore the effort required to make things. Windows programming was in prime time after 10-15 years of development from some of the best engineers in the market at that time. It's old but full-featured and complete for a traditional experience with a computer. Those development times for companies are long gone nowadays, with a few exceptions of course...
