Question: How i can contact with Reaper support to solve a problem with UAD 2 Satellite bugs in Reaper&
Asked by Maksim (185.164.138.x) on March 12 2025, 10:04am
Reply on March 12 2025, 8:42pm:
support at cockos dot com works, though not sure if we'll be the ones to fix this or UAD (when looping we need to render audio slightly faster than realtime, and the UAD gets behind...)

Question: I am new to Linux. Dualbooted it with Windows. How can I even install REAPER in Linux Mint?
Asked by Abhi (106.219.68.x) on March 11 2025, 3:07pm
Reply on March 11 2025, 4:18pm (edited at March 11 2025, 5:10pm):
Download the tar.xz file, then go to a terminal and do:
    tar xf reaper7*.tar.xz
    cd reaper_linux_*
    ./install.sh

and go from there alternatively you could probably extract it and run that script via whatever desktop environment, too...

Question: So you are in depth familiar with the APIs of the 3 major desktop operating systems right? (-> SWELL). How the heck do you learn all that? :)
Asked by wasereb4 (95.91.77.x) on March 10 2025, 1:16am
Reply on March 10 2025, 1:31am:
one at a time, lol! of course most of the linux side of SWELL is abstracted using GDK, though there's some X11 specific stuff that does need to happen. I haven't touched any native Wayland code yet though.

Question: Hi. Are you planning to develop Reaper according to the standards of modern DAWs? Its own drum machine (or bringing the sampler up to the level), a competitive sequencer... Or will you stick to the position of "install third-party tools or install scripts"?
Asked by Andrey (2.58.56.x) on March 8 2025, 8:10pm
Reply on March 8 2025, 9:51pm:

Question: Hi again, what do you think of AI? AI coding? Do you think in the future there wouldn't be any need of coders? Do you also use any AI for coding with Reaper? What IDE do you use?
Asked by Rano (27.131.209.x) on March 2 2025, 10:10pm
Reply on March 3 2025, 2:00am:
I think when AI coding gets good enough you'll have AGI. But AI coding tools will help with lots of busy work, the serious debugging will still take humans.

Question: Since as a human being you may have definitely experienced dreams (whether meaningful or meaningless) while sleeping at some point in your lifetime. How do you account for a non-religious person having a dream about the future, only for it to unfold exactly as seen? Doesn't this suggest the existence of something supernatural or at least spirits capable of revealing the future to us?"
Asked by Garby (154.161.8.x) on March 2 2025, 9:51pm
Reply on March 3 2025, 1:54am:
There are other possible explanations -- it could be a coincidence. Our brains also lie to our conscious self, so your brain could in theory invent the memory of the dream after the real thing occurred (assuming you didn't write it down or talk about it to someone else between the dream and the reality matching it). Lots of possibilities. Realizing that our perceptions of reality are not fixed is a pretty cool thing IMO. I remember reading about how when you move your eyes from one place to another, it takes a long time before they can focus, but your brain will change your perception of time/vision during that interval to make it feel smoother.

Question: Hi Justin! At what moment did you come up with the idea to code a fully functional DAW like Reapper? Do you wanted to record your songs or musical ideas or you think that project as a side business? Your career as Software Engineer is amazing!
Asked by walo (98.97.134.x) on March 1 2025, 8:16pm
Reply on March 2 2025, 4:57am:
started out doing some basic stuff for my own recording purposes, then it went from there. Didn't really think about it being a business until enough people were using the free 0.x versions and then it made sense.

Question: Buying new laptop for music production (lots of third party plugins running together). Is intel i5 good enough? Also what about dedicated graphics card?
Asked by Dude (106.219.71.x) on February 28 2025, 10:51am
Reply on February 28 2025, 5:03pm:
Depends on the plug-ins and how big of projects, but probably yeah. I'd get a lot of RAM. Graphics card doesn't matter.
