Question: When I minimize winamp then bring it back up again, the playlist window shows first, then a half a second later or so the main winamp window snaps in. Why dat?

Question: I'm learing php and programming a blog as an excercise. Assuming you programmed this and your blog, did make it so other users could log in? Do you have a mysql table for "users" or because you knew it was just for you did you not bother with that?

I didn't bother with that. Actually, I didn't bother with mysql...

Usually Chrome, on Win7 or a recent OSX version, but this all varies.

Question: Do you ever feel like REAPER does everything you personally need and have the desire to stop working on it and focus on your own music?

Reply on November 10 2015, 2:35pm:
Sometimes, but then something comes up that I'd like to have (most recently, Super8, heh).

Question: How long do you think it would take you to write a minimalist daw with the insight into the problem you have from reaper? (no copy/paste or referencing from reaper allowed!) :)
Asked by heh heh (79.55.9.x) on November 8 2015, 7:56pm

Minimalist DAW -- that is incredibly vague! Also do you mean something somewhat usable, or something solid? I'd say anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 years, depending on the answers to those questions.

Question: Sorry didn't notice, copy pasted from notepad. It cut the word something and that i will love Reaper for the rest of life and understand it's probably a very particular problem. Would love to know what you think about it though, just as an abstract concept.

Question: It's 18 years since Winamp 1.x (thank you, BTW. Loved it). How do you feel about what became of the tech that you created under the Nullsoft banner? I am specifically talking about Winamp, SHOUTcast, gnutella and WASTE, but if you have strong thoughts on others, or want to include your thoughts on AOL after all this time, please feel free to share.

It's a shame that it ended up where it has. I'd like it back, but don't think it's terribly valuable at this point.

Question: Is there any way for a JSFX to detect which operating system it's being run on? I don't need to know the version, just Windows vs OSX will do. Bonus points if the method works when running JSFX in ReaJS too. The reason I need this is because gfx_drawNumber rounds off in Windows but truncates in OSX: forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=168401

Hmm a better solution would be to fix the rounding issue you describe :)

Question: I've since migrated to Renoise for composing purposes. Someone wrote a little Lua tool to import scala files and I learned enough from that to hack something together. Still think one of the main flaws in DAW paradigm is to base them around a fixed scale, from a guitar analogy imagine you buy a guitar with fixed strings and you can't tune it to drop d or som

Question: Now that we're in our mid 30s, to me at least, 18 yr olds look like little kids. Isn't it a trip to consider one of those kids produced your phat stash? :) I bet you're a pretty big fan of 18 yr old Justin for the hookup!
Asked by Will (107.203.156.x) on November 5 2015, 11:27pm
Reply on November 6 2015, 6:14pm:
I don't really look at it that way, 18-year old me was a bit of a dumbass and a lucky sonofabitch, but would've probably landed on his feet whatever happened anyway.

Question: Thanks re: optimizing. I had been delaing with large collections of steings and never stopped to consider how slow my goto methods were.

np, I'm a big believer in not optimizing until needed, and then testing to see what actually is slow and what works.

Question: Glad to hear that; looking forward to it. FWIW, there's quite a few native VSTs already, something for almost every category: linux-sound.org/linux-vst-plugins.html -- and with a big player like REAPER entering the arena, hopefully more developers will show interest in the platform.

Reply on October 31 2015, 8:03pm:
Cool, probably need to sort out how to pass the VSTs an xlib window in effEditOpen, but otherwise it probably would just work. I hope.
