Question:
When you want to make a major change or addtion to Reaper, how do you organize the effort with Schwa and Cristoph?
Asked by tspring (69.2.168.x) on July 28 2009, 6:27am
Reply on July 28 2009, 12:28pm:
We have a nice 10 step process with online forms instead of paperwork.. for the environment.
Err anyway, usually we discuss things before doing them, or "implement something, commit to SVN, then discuss/tweak".

Question:
What is your favourite music (genre-wise), your favourite bands? Do you play any instrument, and IYHO, how proficiently?
Asked by EvilDragon (89.172.3.x) on July 28 2009, 5:41am

Some current favorites are Radiohead, Mogwai, Dungen, Built to Spill, BSS, .. Grandaddy (and Jason Lytle), Soundgarden, the Pixies.. one Sigur Ros album (AB), two RHCP albums (BSSM and MM), then there are old ones like the Beatles, Can, Led Zeppelin, Television, Pink Floyd, etc..
I play some guitar bass piano/rhodes and drums and sing sometimes, all without any proficiency whatsoever.

Question:
Ritual or Blue Bottle?
Asked by Rob Lord (24.5.85.x) on July 27 2009, 7:45pm
Reply on July 27 2009, 8:58pm:
Ritual was good at one point, but lately their coffee tastes strange -- did they get on that ferret-digested track or something? Blue Bottle is good, but I don't like it dripped there, so I'd go Americano. Bird Bath is the best though.

Question:
Being an WinAmp devoted user until v 3+2, now I use fb2k. What can you say about it? Isn't winamp a little bit bloated nowadays?
Asked by countach (80.37.78.x) on July 27 2009, 2:01pm
Reply on July 27 2009, 5:26pm (edited at July 27 2009, 6:54pm):
I'm not sure if Winamp is bloated now.. the 5.0x versions I use aren't terribly so. I think bloat can be a bad thing, but being anti-bloat to the point of losing functionality/usability/sentimental attachment is a waste. Which is what fb2k is to me (i.e. I'd just as soon use a command line player, it would make as much sense to me).

Question:
Do you use tab when you write code? I notice from some source code written by you that it appear to be space instead of tab.
Asked by PipSqueak (67.88.171.x) on July 27 2009, 11:49am
Reply on July 27 2009, 5:27pm:
Indentation is a waste of bytes! Just kidding. I use tab size of 2, and have my editor use spaces instead of actual tabs.

Question:
How do you become the best programmer in the world?
Asked by gangsta (66.184.73.x) on July 26 2009, 11:38am
Reply on July 26 2009, 7:03pm (edited at July 26 2009, 7:11pm):
Kill off everybody who is a better programmer than you, I presume... The difficulty of this is inversely proportional to how good a programmer you are, so I'd suggest finding a sweet spot. If you are reading this, you are obviously better at programming than me, btw.

Question:
In your opinion, which are some great software being produced right now? Where are good examples of innovation in the industry?
Asked by Felipe (67.180.84.x) on July 25 2009, 10:59pm
Reply on July 26 2009, 7:08pm:
The best software is probably the kind that you write once and don't have to keep updating.. So the things you'd like the most aren't currently being produced, but rather simply exist. The softwares in this category that ARE being produced would probably be known (currently) only to their authors...

Question:
Which audio API do you think is the best and why ?
Asked by remi (80.82.232.x) on July 25 2009, 1:44am
Reply on July 25 2009, 11:38am:
Umm, "audio API" is pretty vague. I'll assume you mean CoreAudio vs OSS vs ALSA vs JACK vs MME vs DirectSound vs WDMKS vs WASAPI vs ASIO.
I haven't worked with JACK. It may be a pleasure, but I can't say.
I'll go with ASIO. It's pretty straightforward to implement on both the driver and application side, and performs well. The downside is of course that these days it's only really available on Windows, and the license for the SDK is generally incompatible with GPL software.
