Question: What was your knowledge level, when you first time realized, that you can work as a programmer? (did you know OOP, multiple languages, etc) I'm thinking about changing profession, programmers in my city have 2-3x bigger salaries, than i have on my main job currently, lol

I had aspirations but didn't ever really get a job before making Winamp... I think maybe I sent a resume or two out (seem to remember something to crack dot com)... so I guess I thought I was somewhat qualified, but not enough to really try to interview places.

a long time ago I wanted to do parkour, and I was reading various guides and one of the prerequisites was to run. so I started running. and that proved to be both challenging and entertaining enough...

Question: Is programming knowledge needed for mastering REAPER software fully? Or a person with no knowledge of programming can master it as well?
Asked by Abhi (103.66.142.x) on May 20 2019, 2:18pm
Reply on May 21 2019, 2:00am:
I don't think you need to know how to program, but like anything relating to computers, being able to program can let you do more things with less effort...

Question: SWELL Linux: It looks like that gnome eats WM_SYSCOMMAND SC_CLOSE (ALT+F4) even if I put that shortcut in my custom MainProcessMessage. Do I have to do something special for that case to work in Linux?
Asked by Gio (94.66.58.x) on May 19 2019, 12:25pm
Reply on May 21 2019, 2:01am:
Hmm SWELL doesn't implement SC_CLOSE at all. The key might be getting eaten by the window manager, you might have to change the assignment at that level (what desktop environment are you using?)

Question: Which Linux distro you love the most? Is it possible to run all Windows softwares in Linux via WINE? How much stable are they? Do they run just like they run in Windows? If performance is not an issue, and they run stable, I will permanently switch to one of the Linux distro, maybe, Ubuntu or Elementary OS (looks beautiful)? I am not a programmer. Is Linux good OS for normal home users?
Asked by Abhi (59.99.117.x) on May 18 2019, 7:43am
Reply on May 21 2019, 2:02am:
I am used to Debian but it's not really a preference just a familiarity. Ubuntu is mostly the same. You can run some stuff with WINE, sure, but if your main goal is to run Windows software, not sure if it's ideal for that.

Question: Do you like the new all-black theme in Windows 10 1804 update? Is it as good as MacOS' dark theme? I never used Mac so I don't know, but watched videos in YouTube. Mac's black theme looks better for me.

Question: Is it better to install 32 bit Windows rather than 64 bit in 4 GB RAM laptop? Does 32 bit Windows give better performance in this case? I have read that at least 6 GB RAM is efficient for 64 bit Windows. 64 bit is for more than 3.5 GB RAM but still it isn't efficient to use it in computers smaller than 6 GB RAM.
Asked by Abhi (117.207.140.x) on May 15 2019, 4:13pm
Reply on May 15 2019, 4:42pm:
I'm not sure what's more efficient, but I would definitely install 64-bit Windows and not bother with 32-bit ever again.

Question: Yesterday night, I saw a shooting star and I immediately made a wish, knew that it doesn't work and it's all just myth, but still I did. Surprisingly, today morning right after I woke up, I found out that my wish fulfilled perfectly. Is it a coincidence or.. miracles really exist? Do you believe in all these stuffs? Have you ever made a wish by seeing a meteor?

Reply on May 6 2019, 1:24pm:
Hah nice! Was the wish ridiculously unlikely? I do believe coincidences are more likely than a lot of people think... :)
