Question: How does the second parameter of PLINK in ParmMod work, when separated by : ? I try to address a specific parameter but all I can do is do relative stuff like 0:-1 for one fx higher in the FXChain and 0:1 for one fx lower in the FXChain. And what does the first number do (First:Second)?
Asked by Mespotine (2.247.248.x) on October 3 2020, 1:46pm
Reply on October 3 2020, 4:56pm:
The second number is the relative offset, yeah, and the first number is the absolute position in the chain (or -100 if MIDI)

Question: In Reaper I'm never sure where the transport playback occur. I mean where in the signal flow the resampling is made? It seems to be after take fx but before track fx? Could you enlighten us with the true truth? Thank you Justin!
Asked by Vincent F. (198.84.249.x) on October 2 2020, 10:00pm
Reply on October 3 2020, 12:19pm:
Resampling happens before all FX (all FX run at the same samplerate).

Question: a weird suggestion - maybe you can add a login support to your reaper website and checkbox for each reaper videos, so that we can login and whichever video we have already seen, we can check the box? this way, it will be way much easier to watch reaper videos and we will know that which video we have seen and which videos we didn't??
Asked by reaper videos are awesome! (104.236.213.x) on September 23 2020, 3:59pm

That's a good idea (maybe not a login but just a cookie?)

Question: Is graphic card necessary or good for music production? which means, are gaming laptops better than normal laptops for heavy DAW usage (like lots of third party plugins running together)?
Asked by G P U (122.161.247.x) on September 23 2020, 3:50pm
Reply on September 23 2020, 5:23pm:
The graphics card doesn't matter much, but if you're expecting to be under high CPU loads you want something that can keep the CPU cool (and doesn't make too much noise in doing so, usually).

Question: Sorry to bother you, my question below is a programming question, not a Reaper. Maybe it's just curiosity, I hope your site allows idle questions. We just had an argument about programming...

Question: Hi Justin. The Reaper has an action "Media explorer: Preview media item source media". I said that Reaper programmers can easily make the media explorer open with selection matched to the item edges. I think that this can take about an hour, because there is already an action and there is a selection function in the media explorer. My colleagues laugh and say that it is not so easy. What do you think?

Question: The sincerity of your replies could lead to believe that AskJF is becoming an "AskJFAnything". If this page provides hours of entertainment for you, have you ever considered looking at readers' searches by tagging the IP as in their posts? Perhaps you will find there some surprising queries born of a simple ephemeral curiosity about a person whom one finds inspiring? Finally, I imagine you devote time to more inspiring activities like flying an airplane ;) Yours,

Question: Do you think that the future of computer music will be like our computers with keyboard / mouse or are we going towards Raspberries and co. (each artist making his own black-box pedal fx style) or do you think we will sink into virtual reality or something else? Back to the acoustics warmness at the end maybe ? :)

Question: How large is the REAPER userbase and do you collect informations about user / computer (with or without licence) in order to make any statistics / licence validation ? Simple curiosity ;) Have a good day !
Asked by Arlequin (37.170.243.x) on September 18 2020, 9:54am
Reply on September 18 2020, 12:55pm:
More people than you can fit in a restaurant! We do collect a little bit of information when REAPER checks for new versions, which we can analyze for statistics, but we only keep that information for a few months at a time.

Question: Would you REAPER as kind of the 'Linux of DAWs' (as I've seen written in audio forums occassionally)?
