While I loathe the idea of implementing yet another plugin format, the spec looks very reasonable...

Question: Do you know about CPU setter? whatroute.net/cpusetter.html#overviewWould it be possible to get Reaper more immune against other processed stealing attention by setting the Nice value of Reaper to for example -10 instead of 0? Or is this a bad idea or even the same as adjusting the thread priority in Reaper itself?
Asked by mlprod (185.81.111.x) on December 15 2021, 2:41pm
Reply on December 16 2021, 3:49am:
REAPER already schedules its threads at higher priorities depending on the OS, so I dunno

Question: What do you think about “ metaverse” subject and future of DAWs specially about Reaper?
Asked by Mehmethan (188.58.118.x) on December 12 2021, 12:46pm
Reply on December 12 2021, 10:33pm:
I liked Snow Crash, but I don't want to live in a dystopian hellhole. As far as DAWs go I think the screen + mouse/keyboard words pretty well.

Question: When Windows 8 was released with new UWP apps, were you shocked or scared that Microsoft might end Win32 softwares and focus on UWP apps and you thought that you have to re-make Windows version of REAPER as a UWP app? Fortunately, Windows 11 start focusing back to its old Win32 apps, but with modern twist (WinUI apps, I guess). And UWP apps are going to be dead soon.
Asked by Abhi (223.190.11.x) on December 11 2021, 3:48pm
Reply on December 12 2021, 10:32pm:
MS has always made a huge priority of preserving backwards-compatibility (unlike some other notable companies), so I didn't worry.

Question: What led to JSFX install no longer being optional? I didn't see any discussion about the change.
Asked by Erin (75.15.159.x) on December 10 2021, 5:54pm
Reply on December 10 2021, 8:33pm:
People who had it mistakenly unchecked and wanted to know why the JSFX loudness meter wasn't there, etc. Contemplating bringing it back but making it always enabled by default, but other platforms don't have this option anyway...

Question: EEL2: Could you give me a hint where to look at if I want to add sections (@mysection) and descriptions (myslider:10)? Thanks
Asked by Gio (94.70.4.x) on December 7 2021, 5:56pm
Reply on December 7 2021, 6:20pm:
Those are JSFX language features, EEL2 itself doesn't have sections or attributes. We are preparing to release the JSFX source (likely LGPL), but it will probably be a few months before it is ready.

Question: Just started getting into recording/production using Reaper. My background is in networking/servers, but about 5 years ago I switched into data analytics, and use Python a lot, so I'm at least intermediate level with that. Question: I would like to start exploring how to write plug-ins and other audio related software. Any recommendations, resources, tips what to do (and not to do), regarding how/where to get started?
Asked by Dean (71.115.202.x) on December 4 2021, 5:11pm
Reply on December 4 2021, 11:04pm:
Despite your proficiency in Python, its integration with REAPER is really poor when compared to Lua or EEL2, so I'd suggest you start with Lua. Learning more languages is a good thing, anyway :) Not sure where the best starting point is, though.
