I tried to use it once but it wouldn't find the music on my sdcard. Probably user error, though, as I had to get the Android device to rescan...

Question:
How is organised your coding ? is all your coding for R included in pre ? If no, what are your other coding about R ?
Asked by I am not a numbe (109.133.134.x) on October 14 2012, 10:24pm
Reply on October 15 2012, 2:02am:
We usually have some work in progress branches that are not included in the main versions... Our code is somewhat decently organized, overall, but there are a few files which are way way bigger than they should be, but updating that is a pain so it happens very gradually.

Question:
If you were to write the shoutcast server today, would you consider note.js?
Asked by John (70.173.150.x) on October 14 2012, 6:25am
Reply on October 15 2012, 2:03am:
node.js? Should be pretty doable, but I'd write it in C++ using jnetlib, because for me it would be just as easy and it could be made to scale a lot further, IMO.

Question:
have u decide what u'll buy yourself 4 birthday present? here's an idea: tinyurl.com/7lfqcg3 (i wish it was mechanical:)
Asked by gio (94.66.75.x) on October 12 2012, 11:39pm
Reply on October 15 2012, 2:04am:
I have one of those, but I prefer the classic natural keyboards instead. I got some good run/bike related clothes for my birthday, so I'm happy with that. and an apple cake, and a long bike ride.

Question:
what's the trick for reaper utilizing cpu even when no actual processing is present? smells like bleeding edge stuff...
Asked by gio (94.66.75.x) on October 12 2012, 3:52pm
Reply on October 15 2012, 2:05am:
We optimize for the case of when processing is used, rather for the case of when no processing is used.

Question:
Ever use Python for anything? Any thoughts good/bad?
Asked by Will (24.234.85.x) on October 12 2012, 2:12am
Reply on October 15 2012, 2:05am:
Rarely, but I hate whitespace being meaningful. Seems like a decent enough language, though, but I have a hard enough time remembering all of the different syntaxes/keywords between C/C++ and Perl and shell scripts etc.

Question:
Who got the best of the O'reilly Stewart Rumble?
Asked by Will (24.234.85.x) on October 11 2012, 11:38pm
Reply on October 15 2012, 2:07am:
I didn't watch it all, but I feel like Stewart dropped the ball a bit, like when he was a touch confused saying that we didn't have a national debt when GW Bush took office (we had projected surpluses but still a significant multi-trillion dollar debt, etc).

Question:
Recommended reading for someone trying to improve their OOP skills? Always struggle with coming up with non-obvious classes...
Asked by AdamWathan (142.156.1.x) on October 11 2012, 7:45pm
Reply on October 15 2012, 2:08am:
IMO OOP is best used for the obvious cases; if you can't obviously make something into class/object form, then maybe it shouldn't be that form? Don't have much reading suggestions, though, I'm afraid.

Question:
Sorry if I'm violating the R note. bit.ly/URSBgF I wouldn't like to include it in SWS if it's not only a drawing issue.
Asked by Martin (93.136.17.x) on October 10 2012, 10:09pm
Reply on October 15 2012, 2:08am:
You could test that pretty easily (render output before/after, etc)

Question:
Do you think ganja should be legalized? If so, where do you draw the line on other drugs?
Asked by Bharath (117.192.139.x) on October 9 2012, 9:00pm
Reply on October 9 2012, 10:43pm:
Yeah, I do think it should. The others are probably best left illegal, though, but IMO possession of any substance for personal use should not be criminal.

Question:
What are your thoughts on getting older? Do you feel you achieved as much between 20 and now as you did between 17 and 20?
Asked by Will (24.234.85.x) on October 9 2012, 6:32pm
Reply on October 9 2012, 10:42pm:
I don't really have a problem with it, as long as I can still do things I like to do; and it seems that the more you focus on those things, the longer you can maintain them.
As far as achieving things, I'd say I've achieved a lot more since I was 20 than before, without any doubt, unless you defined things purely on a how-much-play

Question:
Do you stick to lower level programming languages because of personal taste, performance concerns, or both?
Asked by Nick (66.162.131.x) on October 3 2012, 10:23pm
Reply on October 7 2012, 11:15pm:
Probably more of the first, but for any latency-sensitive applications (such as realtime audio processing) anything garbage collected would be a very bad idea.
