Question: (Maybe, inappropriate question. Sorry, if it is!) Isn't it possible in REAPER (or in any DAW) to implement a tool which can create per note automation for velocity and pan? I mean, just like we have automation for a track, can't it be implemented in each MIDI note?
Asked by Musical Max (107.170.166.x) on August 24 2018, 2:08pm
Reply on August 24 2018, 5:07pm:
    MIDI doesn't define that exactly, is the problem, there are probably nonstandard extensions but not sure if anybody has formalized that...

Question: In www.reaper.fm, why 'DOWNLOAD REAPER' is always green? Whereas others are white, and they change to green only when highlighted? Also, one more question - why reaper.fm? why not reaper.com? (Sorry, I don't know much about website domains and all). (And .com is most popular, I guess, that's why, I asked)

Question: Following Lokasenna, in Greek the semicolon is the actual question mark, which makes things a little bit questionable... --- fixup_negative_timestamps = true;

Question: I had once start updating my laptop's bios without any intention. The installer came with my drivers. I didn't know what's that. Immediately my laptop restart and a black screen occurs with something written on it. I forced turned off my laptop. Then, when I turned on my laptop, nothing works, just a blank screen. It wasn't booting to Windows. I took it into ... I took it into service center and they replaced the motherboard (it was in warranty, fortunately). What mistake I did? How just a bios update and restart can damage my laptop's motherboard??? Anyway, I deleted that file, even knowing that file was with my laptop's drivers.

Reply on August 21 2018, 12:58pm:
    Probably it was turning the thing off while it was trying to update the BIOS which left the BIOS in a corrupted state...

Question: Why do we use sharps & flats in music? Why can't we name the 12 notes as A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K and L? Why bothering key signatures and circle of fifths and enharmonic notes and thinking whether we use sharp or flat (in case if one encounters double sharps and double flats, which are not used practically).

    I imagine that originally people who notated music would just make music in a single key (where it was A-G and no accidentals), then eventually they expanded out? Edit: I did some googling and found that for a long time only B was made flat at times, hence the shape of the flat symbol being similar to that of a B -- or in german notation, H (similar in shape to a B) is B natural, B is B flat

    NYC wins easily! I do sometimes miss the nature elements of Sedona though. The only things I miss about the bay area are the friends who remain there. Also maybe the lack of winter.

Question: So, you said CoreAudio is better. If someone just make electronic music without any recording, would built-in CoreAudio sufficient for that person or they still need an audio interface for better quality?
Asked by Puppy (117.197.7.x) on August 16 2018, 2:26pm
Reply on August 16 2018, 2:50pm:
    CoreAudio is just the way that applications interface with the hardware (whether it be the built-in output on a Macbook, or an ADAT interface)... To answer your question, there's no reason why you can't make awesome electronic music without buying any audio hardware, though mixing on headphones can be challenging, it's totally doable.

Question: i wonder, if CoreAudio is such a beast, why nobody hasn't replicated/ported it yet in linux instead of inventing crappy PulseAudio, ALSA...What do you think?
Asked by Pooooooooooooooo (78.152.169.x) on August 16 2018, 6:57am
Reply on August 16 2018, 2:52pm:
    jack is roughly the equivalent of CoreAudio (and even more flexible). jack's API is probably better to program for, but CoreAudio does other things better (like just working without much setup, allowing different applications to use different samplerates/block sizes, etc).
