Question: Has REAPER ever had other name? I see abbreviation changed a bit), but maybe app had completely different name at dusk of development? Like, WinDAW or something ))

Question: Hey! For days I have been looking for a free FFT tool working with double precision floating points and just now I find it was in WDL. Can you feel my wonder?
Asked by Enrico (62.241.5.x) on August 1 2019, 3:02pm
Reply on August 1 2019, 6:29pm:
Awesome! Though the FFT is a hacked-up simplified DJBFFT, but it's still handy.

By accepting it is outdated the day you wrote it? Also by updating...

Question: How likely would it be to add SuperCollider to Reaper(a programming language for music)? Could this be done as extension somehow? What do you thin about SC?

Hmm probably better off using something like dropbox/google drives... slack seems more communication-focused.

Question: Have you thought of uploading your REAPER projects so they could be sampled. Your stuff is a gold mine. You have a good clean organic sound but you refuse to add structure to your songs! I'm currently listening to "decanted youth 02" and it has so much potential but you wont even play with a metronome.

Those are live jams, playing with a click is no fun. I have thought about uploading the stems to archive.org eventually, it’s currently a few TB...

Question: Advice on making the jump from learning C to building useful applications? Seems like most of the learning resources i’ve seen just cover how the language works but not so much on linking, compiling, libraries, architecture etc. Where did you learn those things?
Asked by esmo (97.115.136.x) on July 28 2019, 6:31pm
Reply on July 30 2019, 4:03pm (edited at July 30 2019, 4:04pm):
Find a small something you need made for yourself and make that, maybe? It doesn't have to be big/fancy.. here's a program I made in 1994 or so, when I was ~16, compiled for DOS with Turbo C. It allowed users of a Novell network to send emails (via shared files on the network share) to eachother (we did not have the internet readily available at that point). It was a mess but could be easily be compiled at the time just by compiling each of "chkmail.c" "readmail.c" or "sendmail.c" (each c file would include mails.c in order to reuse some common code). (side note: the @XY@ syntax for coloring output was the style of the Wildcat BBS system, ot which a friend who was a sysop introduced me)

Question: According to wikipedia, while you were developing winamp, in 1998 winamp expended the id3v1 tag list by about 100 tags. these include some frankly bizarre genre names. i was particularly wondering about the name "Negerpunk", do you know who came up with that genre name and what is it supposed to be? google does not seem to know.

Reply on July 27 2019, 10:53pm (edited at July 27 2019, 10:57pm):
I don't have a specific memory of that, but I do remember extending the id3v1 list (side note: not a polite thing to do, as id3v1 wasn't mine to extend) -- I remember getting a big list of requests from IRC (probably efnet #mpeg3 but guessing there), and adding a few of my own (or one at least, Primus). Whether it was my inattention to detail or naivete of youth, I'm sorry that something offensive ended up in there. :(

Question: Not that you would, but if you abandoned Reaper, and shut off all your servers, and no one else picked up development, would registered installs still work as registered? Or would they eventually give the nag forever? Also, same question please regarding installing on a new computer, if we saved the install file and used our serial number.
Asked by Michael W. Dean (98.127.48.x) on July 27 2019, 11:48am
Reply on July 27 2019, 10:50pm (edited at July 27 2019, 10:51pm):
If you take a reaper installer and an license key file and go install it on a non-internet-connected computer, and set the clock to whatever date you want in the future, it should all work perfectly (or as perfectly as it would otherwise, anyway).
