Question: If winplay3 had seeking, eq, and playlists, do you think winamp would've caught on?
Asked by Will (24.234.128.x) on May 3 2010, 12:51pm
Reply on May 3 2010, 1:47pm (edited at May 3 2010, 1:48pm):
I probably wouldn't have developed Winamp in that case. Actually I take that back -- those three features aren't enough. What made Winamp something that you would want to use is that it was built to be used a lot, by people who used it a lot. Winplay3's design was very much "hey look we can play MP3, it works!" :/

Question: What was your main motivation when you first coded Winamp? Did you have plans of making it big right form the beginning?
Asked by pveera (192.55.55.x) on May 3 2010, 12:21pm
Reply on May 3 2010, 1:48pm:
My motivation for making software is always the same: making stuff that I want to use. Winamp was no different, I just wanted to listen to music on the computer, and I wanted that experience to be enjoyable.
