Do you know of anyone who has released a short film completely edited in Reaper?
Asked by Jordan (70.241.244.x) on March 22 2023, 7:22pm
Reply on March 23 2023, 2:50am:
I'm not aware of any that I can recall but then I wouldn't be anyway

Question:
Would you be able to share documentation on the bitfield (i think) which stores toggle states in the 1st line of project file next to REAPER version info?
Asked by Buy One (95.135.211.x) on March 21 2023, 9:03pm
Reply on March 21 2023, 9:24pm:
That big number is a timestamp (unix time), or 0 if it's an undo block

Question:
Justin, what's the limit, if any, to the length of an extended state section name, key and value strings for both project and global states. Thank you.

Question:
Hi Justin! I'm wondering if you could please help me? I've been using Reaper for a few years on an HP computer, which recently died. I'm now running Windows 10 on a brand new Dell Optiplex 3000. My recently purchased and registered copy of Reaper (64bit) repeatedly closes itself immediately after opening. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it with no success. I'm a musician, not a computer whiz, and I'm stuck! Do you have a solution, or could you refer me to someone who can help me get back up and run

Reply on March 15 2023, 9:20pm:
This isn't the right venue for that but send an email and we'll get back to you.

Question:
Hey Justin, do you think advances in language models (GPT3/now 4) will result in a general 'dumbing-down' of people, I heard recently Chomsky call ChatGPT "high-tech plagiarism"; if peers are rewarded short-term for outsourced superhuman ability, how can genuine effort compete? Or, perhaps this is just another wave of AI fads? Thanks, hope you're well :)
Asked by Jack (146.70.134.x) on March 15 2023, 10:12am
Reply on March 15 2023, 9:21pm:
We're already headed towards idiocracy anyway. The bigger risk I see is the added noise; LLMs don't create new knowledge, but they can be amazingly prolific. Time will tell...

Question:
Do you also have a skeptical feeling about dolby atmos? I havent seen a proper demonstration of it yet and it is starting to look like some false promises or at least a gimmick. Plus I really hate having a company name in it, like if stereo were "mcdonalds stereo" and mono were "mono microsoft".

Reply on March 14 2023, 5:27pm:
It's outside my area of expertise, so I'll reserve judgment

Question:
If in a couple of years there's a way to use VR headets in a DAW to be able to move virtual knobs around with both hands and such, would REAPER treat it as accesability and actually implement it and develop it?

Question:
Mmm, very nice touch to keep wdltypes.h compatible with ANSI C. Always handy for our C projects. It looks to me that support for later C standards from M$ did more harm than good as many projects upgraded mindlessly without putting any consideration for their users [?]

Question:
hello! i cant say everything i want to because of the limit, but your previous work with winamp is really inspiring to me as someone whos always had to sit through ads to listen to music before i found an old version (2.95) i could download. I hate the new one tbh, not a fan of nfts either. ive been learning code since i was 13 maybe, 16 now, and i really want to develop something useful or fun that doesnt need a monthly subscription for the bare minimum some day. You inspire me that way, youre really cool!

Question:
Do you like beans? Any favorite type of beans?
Asked by heya (191.54.63.x) on March 4 2023, 7:46pm
Reply on March 5 2023, 7:45pm (edited at March 5 2023, 7:46pm):
I do like beans! Favorite? That would be hard to say. In a burrito I'd go pinto. But lentils are awesome too. And black-eyed peas. And don't get me started on string beans.
Now I find myself wanting a bean arch.

Question:
Have you ever given up on programming something because you just couldn't figure it out? If so, what's something off hand?
Asked by Will (23.125.224.x) on March 4 2023, 12:30am
Reply on March 5 2023, 7:48pm:
Giving up usually is due to a too-high effort/reward ratio. I don't think I've had a programming situation where I was desperate for something but could not make it work, but I've had plenty of times where I couldn't make something work and I was like "meh not worth it."
