Question: Hi, hello. Are there any websites where users can upload their own voices? MP3 format is mainly required, and WAV is also acceptable.

Question: Hi, hello. Will there be full support for Dolby Atmos in the future? Are there any technical difficulties with it at present? Why hasn't it been supported yet?
Asked by dodo (221.215.214.x) on November 21 2024, 3:26pm
Reply on November 21 2024, 6:06pm:
The answer to that is a complicated one, there are a lot of factors ranging from technical to business to product tradeoffs. You can use third-party tools for that.

Question: I am using reaper quite a lot for live audio processing. Are there any settings that should be changed from the defaults to optimize for realtime audio?
Asked by NikoJL (87.95.34.x) on November 21 2024, 10:08am
Reply on November 21 2024, 6:06pm:
Not really, the defaults should be pretty decent!

Question: Hello. Is it possible to fully utilize all of my CPUs when rendering to a file? Since I'm free and my computer is also free, I'd like to occupy all the CPUs to speed up the process.
Asked by dodo (221.215.214.x) on November 20 2024, 10:17am
Reply on November 20 2024, 4:59pm:
It depends on the project! If e.g. you had a single track with some FX on it, you'd end up with one core reading media and applying take FX/timestretch, another core processing track FX, and a third encoding the resulting media. No real way to engage more cores in that case (at least not without a ton of overhead which might not be worth it).

Question: hey jf- #IF windows write new midi & asio drivers..will that make some of reaper drivers obsolete or non functional? (like wasapi?)
Asked by 2024 (165.120.114.x) on November 14 2024, 9:05pm
Reply on November 14 2024, 9:38pm:
If MS makes a native asio driver that works well, it will be preferable to using REAPER's WASAPI mode, probably. But WASAPI will still be potentially useful for those wanting to use it on Win7/10/etc.

Question: I've made about 8 lua scripts with chatGPT, I've modified others scripts with it too, just because I don't want to nag the dev to cater to my every whim but it's been interesting, I know nothing about programming, I wish I knew but this has opened a ton of potential in this DAW with these tools to us musicians, I think that's neat. What do you think? Have you used it for something like that? even though I know you enjoy programming, does this make my "work" put into making them invalid? seems weird still
Asked by alex (187.201.235.x) on November 14 2024, 2:21am
Reply on November 14 2024, 2:13pm:
if it works, that's amazing. doesn't make programming any less fun or valuable though, imo.

Question: Good evening JF. I am curious about the future of 32 bit float native recording/interfaces. Zoom has a software call "mix control" that works with their interface. Do you foresee any interesting developments in Reaper (or other DAWs) regarding 32-bit float?

Not sure, do they give the DAW 32-bit FP via ASIO/CoreAudio? if so, sweet.

Question: Is syncing audio threads 99% of the difficulty of writing REAPER?
Asked by Will (73.137.176.x) on November 13 2024, 9:53pm
Reply on November 14 2024, 2:15pm:
Thread synchronization isn't usually difficult, sometimes you run into issues but it's rare (knock on wood). Most of the tedious work is UI and dealing with poorly-defined specs or specs that are not adhered to...

Question: If you were starting REAPER today would you handle threads the same way as it is now?

Question: In REAPER, does the same thread that plays audio also update the meters, or are they two different threads?
Asked by Will (73.137.176.x) on November 12 2024, 7:55pm
Reply on November 12 2024, 10:01pm (edited at November 12 2024, 10:02pm):
All UI in REAPER happens from a single thread. The meter state is updated from an audio thread, though things like decay/held peaks/etc are from the UI thread.

Question: Hi Justin, + Crossfade editor: Add graphical crossfade editor. This function sounds great. Could you please tell me how I should use this function with a screen reader like NVDA? I can't find it. Also, could you explain how to use the newly added "playback support for rendered files" function? How can I control it with the keyboard? So far, I've found that I can use the space bar to play and stop. Are there any other controls, like fast forward, rewind, pause...? There's one more thing I don't understand

Reply on November 12 2024, 10:03pm (edited at November 12 2024, 10:04pm):
This is all stuff that should be discussed in the pre-release forum, not here. But since I'm replying: Not sure how the crossfade editor will translate to screen reader use. As far as playing back via the render window, W/Home also go to the start, R toggles repeat. end of discussion though, please!

Question: What's the lowest and highest gcc version used for SWELL? I have used it up to 11 with no issues but 12 is a different story. Not in a hurry to move to a newer version but it would be nice to know which versions are being used during development. Thanks

Pretty sure it should compile with 12 and 13, perhaps using make ALLOW_WARNINGS=1 to ignore any warnings. (probably should make ALLOW_WARNINGS=1 the default)
