Question:
Just curious and maybe you've been asked this before, why Reaper/Cockos doesn't have an official YT channel/social media accounts? IK that technically Reaper mania is part of Cockos (but because of the name, most people don't realize it) but there you only get tutorials (which is awesome) but there are no official coverage of new features (other than release notes), artists features, community showcase, bts etc. on YT/social media.

Question:
How do LV2 Atoms work? I am trying to send a filename from the host to an LV2 plugin, but I can make neither head not tail of it. ELI5?
Asked by djshaji (182.64.20.x) on January 27 2025, 4:25pm
Reply on January 28 2025, 7:43am:
Over an atom port? there's a lot that can go wrong, if you're writing the host you probably want to compile the plug-in in question and step into it to see where it fails...

Question:
Hello, I'm having fun with a sample of some very loud/compressed electronic music. When I play it in Reaper, the master level is almost all the time at -0.1, as it should be. But if I pitch the sample down 2 semitones (and do nothing else), then it's clipping at +5.8dB. What's going on exactly?
Asked by Flupsion (31.37.8.x) on January 27 2025, 8:47am
Reply on January 28 2025, 7:41am:
Does the LUFS or RMS power change substantially? Anyway, timestretch/pitchshift is very much nonlinear so this isn't entirely unexpected.

Question:
What are your opinions about Smart Rings? They look more comfortable than smart bands and much more comfortable than smartwatches. You can literally sleep comfortably with wearing smart rings on your fingers and it tracks all your health stuffs including sleep quality. Seems like interesting thing which may replace at least smart bands (if not smartwatches) in future?
Asked by Abhi (106.219.70.x) on January 27 2025, 6:01am
Reply on January 28 2025, 7:40am:
haven't tried them, but I don't mind sleeping in my old fenix 5 watch. having a nylon band helps.

Question:
What are your opinions on unions in C? Personally I never use them unless I really need to. Structs on the other hand requires less mental overhead.
Asked by Matthew (98.13.80.x) on January 26 2025, 8:07pm
Reply on January 27 2025, 1:21am:
Most of the time they can and probably should be avoided, especially for avoiding strict aliasing violations etc, but they do have their uses.

Question:
Any hope of IPlugCompatibility support (from the VST3 SDK) to allow VST2 plugins to seamlessly migrate to VST3? Waves just dumped VST2 as have many others recently so older projects are suddenly a lot less future-proof. Other vendors (U-he, etc.) in a similar boat and supporting IPlugCompatibility.

It's somewhat maddening that they chose JSON as a format here. Let me look into it. Edit: of course, I just spent an hour writing a JSON parser and now it's not that bad feeling. Just gotta find some plug-ins that support it now.

Question:
Can you share some details about how you handle and synchronize so many Reaper feature branches in Git
Asked by zabukowski (86.61.50.x) on January 24 2025, 7:20am
Reply on January 25 2025, 8:23pm:
It's not so bad with only a couple of people contributing, when we do things that will conflict we're generally aware of it, and if not it's relatively straightforward to deal with it.
